(Narrative and maps provided by
Andrea Pollett, Roma; key to map
shown below the larger map)

Key to the above map:
1 - Hadrian's Tomb (Castel Sant'Angelo), and Aelius
Bridge (presently Sant'Angelo Bridge).
2 - Psamtik II's obelisk (still laying down by
the Campus
Martius, where it was
found); just behind the obelisk is
Mons Citorius (Citorius
Hill), which is no longer there,
although the Parliament's
building is actually called
Palazzo di Montecitorio.
On the left of the column is
the Ustrinum (building
used as a crematorium, no
longer there).
3 - Circus Agonalis (piazza Navona).
4 - The Pantheon; just to the right are the Thermae
Agrippae (Baths of Agrippa),
a few remains of which
can still be seen by
a small street behind the Pantheon,
via dell'Arco della
Ciambella.
5 - Octavia's Porch, in front of Fabricius Bridge
leading
to the Tiber Island;
behind the porch is the Circus
Flaminius (no longer
existing).
6 - Trajan's Column in front of the same emperor's
markets.
7 - Baths of Diocletian (only mentioned, not
pictured).
8 - This is probably the Castrum Praetorium,
where
presently the National
Library stands.
9 - Sallustian Gardens.
