(The Chapel of the Confession, by Maderno, is directly in front of the Papal Altar, over the
Tomb of St. Peter; 99 oil lamps burn night and day before the Tomb of St. Peter around the Confessio -
94 around the railing and which contain the double staircase leading down to the Niche of the Pallia, and five gold
hanging oil lamps that stretch in front of the relics.)
