Piazza di San Giovanni in LateranoLocated alongside the Scala Sancta building (Holy Stairs) in Piazza Porta San Giovanni in front of the Basilica of
San Giovanni in Laterano, this is all that remains of the dining room (triclinium) of the ancient Patriarchate,
or the papal palace which was commissioned by Leo III in the 8th century. The mosaics portray
Christ and the Apostles, St. Peter Crowning Leo III, and Christ Investing Pope Sylvester and Constantine.
These ancient remains were restored in the 18th century by Ferdinando Fuga.
